With the winning of the bid for the 9E gas turbine single cycle recovery power generation project of Dongga Gas Turbine Power Plant in Lhasa, Xizang, on September 20, 2022, we have the opportunity to visit Xizang again, meet friends like relatives, pay our efforts for Xizang power, and renew our feelings.

Dongga Power Plant is a S109E-180MW gas steam combined cycle unit. The plant is located in the valley plain in the middle reaches of the Lhasa River, a tributary of the the Yarlung Zangbo River. It is about 18km away from the famous Potala Palace. It is the highest operating 9E gas turbine unit in the world.

Due to the impact of the Lhasa epidemic, the resumption of work and production of the project has not been approved. In order to ensure that the unit officially resumes power generation and operation on December 15th, we have applied to the relevant departments in Lhasa and agreed to allow personnel to directly enter the factory area for quarantine observation after arriving in Tibet. With the first batch of personnel entering the project site during the National Day holiday, it has brought hope for the project's launch; After multiple coordinated efforts, the project finally received approval for resumption of work and production, and was able to officially start construction.

With the start of the project, construction materials, spare parts, etc. urgently need to be in place. Due to the shutdown and power outage of the unit for five years, the entire system needs to be repaired, and the replacement of spare parts is several times more than a regular overhaul. Moreover, the vast majority of spare parts need to be purchased from the original equipment manufacturer, and the main components and control system components need to be shipped from GE in the United States. Due to the failure to restore transportation and logistics in Lhasa, equipment cannot be returned to the factory for maintenance, spare parts cannot be purchased and stored in Tibet, and large mechanical equipment cannot be stored in the factory. This has seriously affected the progress of the project, and the problems are urgent. In order to open up the logistics channel, the company immediately established a Chengdu office to negotiate with various logistics and emergency transportation channels, and finally opened the life channel for incoming and outgoing materials, solving the problems of spare parts returning to the factory and equipment storage.

Entering high-altitude construction, the first challenge is altitude sickness. The project has a heavy workload, coupled with epidemic control measures, and materials, spare parts, and related debugging personnel cannot enter Tibet; In the face of such great difficulties, colleagues at Heli Company have demonstrated the iron army spirit of daring to challenge and not fearing difficulties. Through active communication and efforts from everyone, the gas turbine recovery overhaul project was successfully carried out and gained the trust and recognition of Party A.

After 20 days and nights of hard work, the gas turbine rotor was successfully lifted out. On site maintenance personnel carried out individual inspections and checks on the gas turbine body, auxiliary equipment, electrical, thermal control, fuel and circulating water systems, as well as various auxiliary systems, ensuring that every work node was completed on schedule. This truly demonstrated the professional team quality and revealed the beauty of craftsmanship everywhere, laying a solid foundation for the successful completion of the project.

In the context of the raging epidemic, we are well aware of the altitude sickness that may occur when entering Tibet. Upon receiving the news that the company organized personnel to enter Tibet for maintenance, our colleagues did not back down and worked hard to move forward.
